Antalya Month by Month: April to June

To read the early season correctly, it helps to consider the air and the sea separately. Land responds quickly to the sun, while the sea releases the coolness it has stored over winter only slowly. That is why April can feel like summer on land while the water is still fresh. The table below combines the official 1991-2020 climate normals for Antalya published by the Turkish State Meteorological Service with long-term coastal sea temperature averages.

April is the opening month of the season, and its character comes from the gentle warmth of the day. Reaching 21 to 22 °C around midday, it is ideal weather for long walks along the shore, breakfasts outdoors and visits to ancient sites. In the evening the air cools to around 11 to 12 °C, so a light cardigan or jacket belongs in the suitcase. The sea averages 18.2 °C and is still cool. A brief, invigorating swim is possible for the bold, but in April it is the heated pools that truly offer the pleasure of the water.

May is the month in which the season really warms up. The average daytime high climbs to 26.4 °C and daily sunshine to 9.4 hours. There is no official date for the first swim; what matters is the temperature of the water. The generally accepted rule is that around 20 °C marks the lower limit of comfortable swimming.
