Things to Do in Antalya in September: Festivals and Late-Summer Events

On the Mediterranean coast, September is defined by light rather than by the calendar. As August's intensity recedes, the sea reaches its warmest point of the year, while evenings cool just enough for long dinners on the terrace. Antalya's cultural calendar does not close this month; in ancient theatres, illuminated sites and hotel gardens it takes its most refined form. At Kirman Premium, September is not an extension of summer but the season's most balanced chapter.

This guide gathers what there is to do around Side and Okurcalar in September under the headings of culture, events, nature and in-house programmes. It follows on from our guide to events in August, but focuses only on what is unique to September: the final month of night museum openings, the September stage at the ancient theatre and the Oktoberfest celebrations beginning at our hotels.

The Privilege of September: Summer Warmth, Autumn Calm

On the Antalya coast, September days average 31.7 °C and nights 20.1 °C. The sea stands at 27-28 °C, its highest of the year, because the water releases the heat stored through summer only slowly once autumn arrives. With 9.1 hours of sunshine a day, the month records just 1.9 rainy days and 22 millimetres of rain. Statistically it is an exceptionally reliable month: no planned programme need be sacrificed to the weather.

The progression within the month is itself an advantage. September opens at 33/21 °C with the sea at 28 °C, and by the 30th eases to 29/18 °C with the sea at 26 °C. The first week is still fully summer; the final week opens the year's most comfortable window for sightseeing, walking and ancient cities. Along the Okurcalar and Alanya shoreline, nights are 1-2 °C milder than around Side. That small difference decides how long evening programmes last: an evening on the beach or the pier can stay mild enough to need no jacket, even in late September.

The Final Month of Night Openings: Ancient Cities by Moonlight

What most sets September apart is the night museum calendar. The programme keeping the region's archaeological sites open in the evening runs from 1 June to 1 October 2026, making September the season's last month for illuminated ancient cities after dark. In October the same stones stand in the same place, but that light and evening stillness returns only the following summer.

Under this programme, the ancient city of Side can be visited until 22:00. The walking area is free; the Side Museum and the ancient theatre require separate tickets, and the Museum Card is valid for Turkish citizens. After sunset the columns of the Temple of Apollo take on an entirely different silhouette above the sea, and the evening offers a pace far removed from the daytime crowds.

At the Aspendos Ancient Theatre, evening visits run from 19:00 to 22:00, the ticket office closes at 21:30 and a supplement of 200 TL applies. The September Stage at Aspendos: The Opera and Ballet Festival

The Aspendos Opera and Ballet Festival is held in September and carries the region's cultural calendar almost single-handedly. In 2025 the programme ran from 14 September to 1 October. It would not be right to publish exact dates and repertoire for 2026 in advance; we recommend checking the current programme as you plan.

The theatre can also be visited outside festival days. It is open from 08:00 to 19:00 on the summer timetable until the end of October; from November it closes at 17:30. Admission for international visitors is 15 EUR, while Turkish citizens enter free with the Museum Card. Aspendos lies roughly 35 kilometres from our hotels in the Side area, making the return after an evening performance comfortable.

Setting the programme early on performance evenings removes surprises over the journey and the seating. Guests leaving well before curtain time can add an ancient city visit and round off the day around a cultural theme.

Oktoberfest at Our Hotels: A Bavarian Note in September

Oktoberfest celebrations at Kirman Premium hotels are held in September and October. The gardens are dressed in blue and white flags, wooden beer barrels are set up, and our kitchen teams prepare a menu of pretzels, sausages, home-made pickles and traditional desserts. Live music and traditional games complete the evening.

In 2025 the celebrations took place at Arycanda on 22 September, Leodikya on 22 September and 6 October, Calyptus on 25 September, Sidera on 26 September, and Sidemarin on 29 September and 9 October. These evenings are the liveliest part of the late-summer programme. Once the day's heat has eased, tables laid outdoors become the evening expression of our all day all inclusive approach. Music Feast: The Closing Notes of the Concert Season

The Music Feast concert programme, which runs all season in our hotels' amphitheatres, concludes in mid-September. The final 2025 concerts were staged on 3 September at Arycanda and Leodikya and on 17 September at Sidemarin. For guests planning evenings of live music, the first half of September is the season's last opportunity.

All five of our hotels have an amphitheatre, and evening programmes continue outdoors as the weather allows. The September night average of around 20 °C is an ideal threshold for open-air concerts: neither high summer's oppressive humidity nor autumn's early chill is felt. Afterwards, the beach and pier offer an alternative pace.

Day Trips in Cooler Air

Routes that call for shade in midsummer become far more comfortable in September, as daytime temperatures fall a few degrees. Manavgat Waterfall, the closest day trip to the Side area, fills a few hours. For a full day, the Green Canyon boat tour offers tranquil hours on the reservoir.

For guests staying at Okurcalar, the Alanya direction is closer. Okurcalar to central Alanya is 31-36 kilometres and 30-42 minutes, putting the Alanya Castle, Red Tower and Shipyard route within half a day. For a cool valley, the Dim River and Dim Cave stand out as an alternative.

Travelling as far as central Antalya calls for planning: it is 73-75 kilometres from Side, and 103 kilometres and roughly 1 hour 34 minutes from Okurcalar. For guests who choose it, the streets of Kaleici fill a day on their own. All the route alternatives are gathered in our daily tours guide.

September's most graceful hour, however, is the sunset. As the month progresses the sun sets earlier and the light softens, moving the beach and the pier to the centre of the programme. September Inside the Hotel: Pools, Wellness and the Sports Programme

In September the in-house programme is as full as the calendar outside. Our heated pools are maintained at 28 °C; pool heating operates outside the 15 May to 16 October period. Planning September: The Right Area and the Right Timing

The focus of your September programme also decides where you stay. For a holiday centred on culture and ancient cities, the Side area has the advantage: the ancient city of Side is within walking distance and Aspendos roughly 35 kilometres away. For a quiet stretch of coast and proximity to Alanya, Okurcalar comes to the fore. The two areas lie 34 kilometres and around 34 minutes apart, so staying in one and seeing the other on a day trip is straightforward.

September is one of those rare months where the best of two seasons meets in one calendar. The sea is at its warmest while the shoreline empties, the ancient cities are released from the daytime heat, and evening programmes continue without being held hostage to the weather. The first half suits those seeking concerts and a sea that is still fully summer; the second favours sightseeing, walking and cultural routes.

As you build your programme, we would note that the night museum openings conclude on 1 October, the Music Feast concerts end in mid-September, and the Oktoberfest celebrations are concentrated in the month's final ten days. Where these three meet sets certain weeks apart and makes a considered booking date worthwhile.
