The final week of October holds a distinctive place in Turkey's holiday calendar. The intensity of the summer season has passed, the coastline has settled into a quieter rhythm, and yet the Mediterranean has not let go of its warmth. 29 October 2026 marks the 103rd anniversary of the proclamation of the Republic; a day with a particular place in the country's shared calendar, it also opens a favourable window for a short coastal escape during the last mild days of the season.
As the date approaches, the first question is almost the same every year: how long does the holiday last, and is it possible to extend it to four days? How Long Is the 29 October 2026 Holiday: The Calendar and the Leave Plan
29 October 2026 falls on a Thursday. The public holiday, however, does not begin on the morning of 29 October but a day earlier: a half day comes into effect from 13.00 on Wednesday 28 October, and Thursday 29 October follows as a full public holiday. In official terms, then, the total period is one and a half days.
There is a common misunderstanding here. No automatic bridging arrangement applies to public holidays that fall on a Thursday. Unless a decision to the contrary is announced, Friday 30 October is a normal working day. The four-day window therefore does not appear on its own; it has to be planned.
How long does the 29 October 2026 holiday last? The public holiday begins at 13.00 on Wednesday 28 October and ends on the evening of Thursday 29 October, so the official period is one and a half days. Because 29 October 2026 falls on a Thursday, no automatic bridge holiday is created. If a day of annual leave is taken for Friday 30 October, the break extends without interruption to four days, from the morning of Thursday 29 October to the evening of Sunday 1 November.
The arithmetic is straightforward. An employee who takes a single day of annual leave for Friday 30 October gains four full days, from the morning of Thursday 29 October to the evening of Sunday 1 November. The afternoon of Wednesday 28 October can be added to this as well; a family setting off after midday spends Wednesday evening at the hotel and gains the first day in full.
The Antalya coast suits this scenario, because travelling times are short and predictable. Within a four-day programme, flights and airport transfers take up no more than half a day in total, there and back. On short breaks, time is the most valuable resource. It is therefore worth choosing accommodation that does not require spending most of the day away from the hotel. Late October in Antalya: Sea, Weather and Light
At the end of October the Antalya coast occupies a middle ground: it has released the harshness of summer without surrendering to the cool. In the final days of the month daytime temperatures average around 23°C and night-time temperatures around 13°C. The sea, meanwhile, holds at approximately 24°C. That figure is above the May sea average of 21.4°C; in other words, the sea at the end of October is milder than during the May days at the start of the season.
The wider October picture also favours these four days. Across the month there are 7.5 hours of sunshine a day on average and 4.9 rainy days. Most of the month, in short, is clear and dry. Can you swim in Antalya during the 29 October break? Yes. In the final days of October the sea temperature along the Side and Alanya coast is approximately 24°C. That is clearly above 20°C, the level generally regarded as the lower limit for comfortable swimming, and above the May average of 21.4°C as well. Because daytime air temperatures hover around 23°C, swimming is usually preferred between 12.00 and 16.00, the mildest hours of the day.
The one variable to keep in mind is the length of the day. On 31 October, daylight lasts 10 hours and 41 minutes. This window, noticeably shorter than in the summer months, calls for excursions to begin early in the morning. A guest who finishes breakfast early and sets off can comfortably spend the afternoon by the sea.

Shaping the Four Days: Arrival and Settling In by the Sea
A well-shaped four-day programme never fills the first day. The day of arrival is given over to settling into the hotel, becoming familiar with the resort and dinner. The distance between Antalya Airport and Side is between 73 and 75 kilometres; for the Okurcalar side it rises to 103 kilometres and a journey of about an hour and a half. A guest landing in the afternoon arrives in good time for dinner.

How do you plan a four-day Antalya programme? The most productive arrangement for a short break is this: arrival and settling in on the first day, sea and rest on the second, a cultural route on the third, and a calm closing day and departure on the fourth. Because daylight at the end of October lasts 10 hours and 41 minutes, the excursion day should begin early in the morning. Side is roughly 35 kilometres from Aspendos and 34 kilometres from Okurcalar; these distances are easily covered in a single day.
Day Three: A Cultural Route in Cooler Air
October is one of the most comfortable times of the year for visiting ancient cities. Courtyards where the stone underfoot radiates heat in summer, and steps without shade, become an entirely different experience on a 23°C day. The walking pace does not slow, breaks grow shorter and the programme can cover more ground.
The ancient city of Side, with its promenade running along the shore, is the natural starting point of this route. The open walking area within the city is free of charge; the museum and the ancient theatre are visited on separate tickets. Following the colonnaded street to reach the sea-facing columns of the Temple of Apollo takes an hour and a half to two hours in the morning.
The ancient theatre of Aspendos, roughly 35 kilometres from Side, is a second stop that can be visited on the same day. Aspendos remains open until 19.00 under summer hours until the end of October; from November the closing time moves to 17.30. Admission is 15 euros for international visitors, while Turkish citizens enter free of charge with a Museum Card. For guests staying on the Okurcalar side, the cultural route turns east. Central Alanya lies between 31 and 36 kilometres away, a journey of 30 to 42 minutes. The Hours Spent Inside the Hotel
In a period when the days are growing shorter, the quality of a holiday is defined by how the evenings are spent. Side or Okurcalar: Choosing the Right Stretch of Coast
Over four days, the choice of area largely determines the character of the holiday. Side and the Manavgat area are the natural choice for those who wish to stay right beside the ancient city. An ancient city within walking distance makes a cultural programme possible without a car on shorter days.
The Okurcalar side, in turn, offers a quieter stretch of coast. Its proximity to central Alanya keeps routes to the east within easy reach. Nights along this shore are also one to two degrees milder than in Side, and in the cooling evenings of late October that difference is felt. The two areas are only 34 kilometres apart, a journey of 34 minutes.

Timing the Booking: Why the Region Is Busy That Week
The week of 29 October is not limited to the domestic calendar. The same days coincide with Europe's autumn school holidays. In Germany, the holiday runs from 17 to 31 October in North Rhine-Westphalia and from 19 to 31 October in Berlin. In the United Kingdom the October half term falls between 26 and 30 October, while in Russia the recommended period runs from 26 October to 3 November.
The overlap of these calendars turns the end of October on the Antalya coast into a period of the season that is calm without being quiet. Are hotels in Antalya busy during the week of 29 October? This week brings together the public holiday in Turkey and Europe's autumn school holidays. In Germany, North Rhine-Westphalia has holidays from 17 to 31 October and Berlin from 19 to 31 October; in the United Kingdom half term falls between 26 and 30 October; in Russia the recommended period runs from 26 October to 3 November. Because of this overlap, the end of October brings noticeable activity within an otherwise calm part of the season and makes it advisable to settle room preferences in advance.
The November Half Term and Planning Notes
For families whose leave arrangements do not fit Friday 30 October, a second window is available. In the Turkish Ministry of National Education's 2026-2027 academic calendar, the first half term runs from 16 to 20 November 2026. This period makes taking leave easier for families with school-age children.
November's climate differs from October's. Daytime averages fall to 21.6°C and night-time averages to 10.7°C, while the sea settles into a band of 21°C to 22°C. Rainy days rise to 7.1. This does not mean that the sea is entirely out of the question, but it does show that the weight of the programme shifts towards the indoor pool, the spa and cultural routes.
To guests choosing between the two windows we would say this: the 29 October period brings the sea and the sun to the fore, while the November half term offers a calmer holiday weighted towards indoor spaces. A small reminder for the day of departure: guests setting off on the evening of Sunday 1 November would do well to allow around an hour and a half for the journey to the airport from the Okurcalar side. From Side the journey is shorter. Closing the final day with a leisurely breakfast by the sea and a short walk creates a rhythm that keeps the return from feeling rushed.
